Route Old Mill - Balchik Palace

The starting point of this route is the city tourist information center, which is housed in the old mill in town of Balchik. It was designed and built by a German company in 1910, on behalf of anonymous industrial company which bought much of the grain Golden Dobrudja and no intention to revise it here. The mill is the most advanced of its time in Bulgaria, silos are reinforced, the building has four floors and has a mind-boggling to the early twentieth century capacity than seventy-five tons per day.

For better or worse, it operates only a few years since 1916 and was destroyed by the Russian Black Sea Fleet during the First World War. Say "good ..." because in this way the buildings are "preserved" in its original form, though for decades have been used for other purposes.

This coincidence enabled at the time of Balchik municipality to restore the old mill and to knit in undeniably charismatic building located on the beach, modern ideas. There are separate spaces, which are realized cultural events, tourist information center has led to exploratory talk, and also presents three exhibitions - "The Way of the grain," "Signs of Time" and "Cultural Routes" that provide detailed past the most northern part of the Black Sea coast, Eastern Dobrogea, in particular near Balchik.

Old mill tourist route headed to the temple of Cybele, one of the best preserved not only within Bulgaria and all. It was opened in 2007 in the city itself. Epochal event is actually quite by accident, as happened during the excavation. The temple was built about three centuries BC and is associated with flourishing at that time, an ancient Greek colony Dionisopolis.

It found many perfectly preserved statues of Asia Minor goddess mother and twenty-seven goals wholly or partially preserved inscription from which one can learn a lot about life and culture of our ancestors. The temple was destroyed several times during enemy invasions, then it is restored. This does not happen after the devastation that undergoes in 378 years, during the Gothic pogroms of eastern provinces of the Roman Empire. He never rebuilt, but that is preserved in good condition due to landslides that overwhelm him several centuries later and preserved for generations.

Of course, it is difficult to create a tourist route in Balchik, which is not included the biggest attraction of the city, namely Architectural Park Complex "Palace". Created by Italian architects and gardeners Swiss custom of Queen Mary after the Balkan wars, it is remarkable not only for its architecture, combining many periods latitudes and styles, as well as an exceptional variety of flora.
