Basarbovski monastery

Basarbovo rock Monastery is located in River Valley Ruse Lom, near the village Basarbovo and 10 km from Rousse. Basarbovo Monastery is the only active rock monastery in Bulgaria. Path in which to enter the monastery passes through beautifully landscaped garden and ends in a well dug by Father Dimitri. Water in wells is considered to be curative. At the foot of the cliffs are two dining rooms and cave, built in 1956. From there the 48 stairs leads to the rock platform, where is the niche where according to legend, St. Demetrius is sleeping. The right is the rock church with a carved iconostasis, made in 1941. In other stone steps leads to a natural cave, which is buried Hrisant monk. The cave serves as the ossuary, which is arranged and a museum collection. Does not offer accommodation, but the proximity of Rouse greatly facilitates the visit. Serenity and beauty of the cliffs of the canyon is worth, and the Ivanovo rock monasteries close to supplement impressions and will delight the eye.
