One of the best preserved fortresses in Bulgaria - Belogradchik was used last less than 130 years. It is about the Serbian- Bulgarian War in 1885. Today, the castle was restored , declared a cultural monument and is part of the 100 national tourist sites.
Belogradchik fortress is located next to the town of Belogradchik and played an important role over the centuries. It is also called Belogradchik Fortress . It consists of three yards with an area of 10 211 square kilometers and a separate fortification . There are two main gates - Vidin and Niš pepper peppers .
Original features of the fort were not strictly defensive and observant . Ancient citadel was part of the defense system of the Byzantine Empire, was providing surveillance and security of the roads leading to Byzantium. Its first stone was laid in probably the III century much later - in the XIV century Bulgarian ruler Ivan Sratsimir doukrepyava and expanded the fortress. The next impetus to the development gave her when Turkey invaded the Bulgarian state. Fort was captured in 1396 .
