Price: Malko Sharkovo dam was built on the river Popovska to the village in Strandja Mountain, close to the border with Turkey. Was put into operation in 1966 and is one of the largest reservoirs of embankment dam in Bulgaria . Interestingly, the ponds is surrounded by low hills , which were turned into arable land , mostly planted with winter wheat. The surrounding area is beautiful and woodlands . Shortly Sharkovo dam is a nice place to practice angling . Keen on this hobby tourists can catch roach , carp, perch , bream , perch , gudgeon , maple, catfish , bleak , roach and carp. Sometimes the town hosts sport fishing competitions .
Besides fishing assembly point, however , the dam is the ornithological important not only for Bulgaria but for the whole of Europe - from 1989. It is home to wintering waterfowl here . In the area are recorded 46 species , 16 of which are part of the Red Book of Bulgaria and another 14 are of European conservation concern . The reservoir is an important place of international importance for wintering ground colonies of white-fronted goose, which number in the winter months can reach 17,000 . Furthermore, the body of water is of national importance for wintering Mute Swan , Whooper Swan and Red-breasted Goose . The lake is also home to the breeding colony of the Night Heron .
