Eco trail Boliartsi - Perperikon

This trail connects the archaeological complex Perperikon one of the main starting points to get to it - village Bolyartsi. The village is located in the municipality of Kardzhali, 14 km from the district center. The population is about 150 people , and the area is characterized by transitional Mediterranean climate and healthy mountain air. In the land of Bolyartsi is nature reserve "Jenda " nearby are ancient gold mines Inikler, but , of course, the most famous and visited attractions near the village is Perperikon where will take us this eco trail.

The route starts from the village center, passing through woodland and modest length of just over 3 kilometers, offers plenty of sights. Here you can see Tekke ( sacred to Muslim ritual ) , a platform for bird watching ( the region is famous for its great ornithological diversity) , rock formations in bizarre shapes , protected plant species.

All along the route is marked with a red and white strip marking and information boards, so that the security of tourists is guaranteed. Approximately half the length of the trail passes through beautiful forest. The rest moves through pine plantations and small meadows. The path are two recreation areas with fountains - at Muslim shrine in the end, where there is parking for those who prefer to go by car to Perperikon .

Perperikon ( Perperek ) is an archaeological site that represents several resort, the oldest of which dates back about 8000 years. Situated on a natural hill 470 meters above sea level. Its existence is continuously until the XIV century, when it was destroyed by the Ottomans. Megalithic religious complex, which is the most ancient layer of Perperikon is the largest of its kind on the Balkan Peninsula.

The cult center survives consistently in the Stone, Bronze and Iron Age, flourished with time and is becoming more spectacular sanctuary. One theory of this place Thracian tribe Satri worshiped Dionysus. Along with the sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi, it was most famous in the Balkans. Divination is with fire and wine, and here gathered people from hundreds and thousands of miles away .

Perperikon later became a religious center from which were converted celebrated independence and pride Thracian tribe Bessi. In the Middle Ages there is a strong fortress, which in different ages passed into the hands of the Bulgarians and Byzantines, and in 1362 was conquered and destroyed by the Ottomans. The townspeople were kidnapped into slavery and eventually abandoned the site completely.
