Borovets-the pride of the Bulgarian winter resorts. It is only 10 km away from Samokov, about 72 km. from the capital city and 124 km from Plovdiv. Borovets is easily accessible and is associated with the listed cities through very well built and maintained road network.

This is one of the oldest Bulgarian resorts and largest winter and ski centre. Beginning leads since 1897.

It is situated on the northern slopes of the Rila mountains, at the foot of the highest peak on the Balkan Peninsula-Musala (2925 m.) and about 10 km. thereof as the crow flies, among centuries-old coniferous forests. The climate is extremely favourable and healthy. The air is crystal clear. Summer is fresh and cool and the winter is mild without sharp frosts during blossom periods. There are a lot of sunny days throughout the year, and the snow is often with a thickness over one metre and is maintained from December to early April.

Without a doubt the real congeniality and charm of Borovets is during the winter. There are 58 km. tracks of varying lengths and degrees of difficulty. Tracks are grouped into 3 regions: Sitnyakovo-Martinovi BARAKI-8 tracks, Markudjik-4 pistes and Yastrebets 3 ski runs. The slopes on the Yastrebets are the highest class, and usually they are held at major competitions, the Markudjik are with the greatest height. Since 2003 some of the slopes of Martinovi BARAKI have created conditions for night dives. The slopes are serviced by lifts with capacity of about 15,500 tourists per hour. The slopes are marked and signposted in several languages. The quality and thickness of snow cover is provided by snow cannons. Borovets is a challenge and a favourite place for snowboarders, which offers different in complexity and workload. The resort offers ski runners tracks running in a wide meadow "and" Varnika ".

The complex also has a luxury hotels, lodges, restaurants, bars, discos and shops. Borovets is among the winter resorts with the most highly developed night life. Borovets is also the starting point for many walking routes-the peak Musala (about 6 hours), to the Palace of Sitnyakovo (about 1.30 hours), to the Maritsa chalet-(about 4.30 hours). The information centre of the resort o - Borovets Adventure Center is located in the commercial heart of hotel "Rila".
