In February 1952 the actors from the Drama Theatre Dobrich - Nikolay Mihaylov, Mihail Novakov prepare first puppet show - " Red Riding Hood " . The main role is entrusted to the Russian Tsekova - artistic director of amateur puppet theater in the city.
On January 1, 1963 by a decree of the Council of Ministers puppet theater was nationalized and became an affiliate of the drama . By order of April 1, 1981 puppet theater became an independent institute .
About seventy activity of the theater created 210 productions were exported around 12,400 performances to about 1,209,000 viewers. Over 150 performances are abroad at festivals and tours in Slovakia , Yugoslavia, Mexico , Afghanistan , Switzerland, Italy , Germany, Hungary , Austria , Spain and many times in Turkey. The theater has won numerous international awards.
State Puppet Theatre " Dora Gabe" is a secondary officer at the Ministry of Culture. From January 2011 a cultural institution in the performing arts delegated budget.
