Route Ustra Hut - Belite Brezi Hut

The starting point of this tourist route is located in the Eastern Rhodopes hut "Ustra". Built on Ustrenski Ridge, it is a major starting point for one of the best preserved medieval castles in the Rhodopes, also named Ustra. The most convenient starting point for the lodge is a town Djebel of which take the road to the village Ustren to pull over a marked trail just before his plate. The distance is about nine kilometers. It should be borne in mind that unfortunately hut is not sufficiently developed, although it is abundant in natural, cultural and historical attractions area, and does not work consistently.

To the next stop on our route, Ustra castle is reached by a steep path for about half an hour. The remains are remarkable - most stone foundations of defense equipment and cult buildings are preserved very well. Fortress was built in the tenth century, in order to protect passers trade route that connected Thrace and the Aegean.

From the peak Ustren ( 1114 meters altitude ) goes south and passes through impressive with its odd shapes and sizes Ustrenski impressive cliffs. Continue west along the road to the villages Pripek and Lebed, by going through the ancient Roman road to Mt Alada ( Allah dag - God of Turkish mountain, 1241 meters ) . After the ascent route continues to the peak fortress ( 980 meters ) , where you can be seen the remains of a Thracian fortress.

At the foot of the fortress is remarkable sanctuary from the same period Eagle Rocks. Represents artificially carved into the inaccessible cliff about 100 trapezoidal niches with depth of 12 cm. There are many theories about the purpose of fanciful dents, but anyway none of them based on hard evidence.

Bush to the end point of the route - tourist complex "Belite brezi" ( White Birches) brings good road passing by the base of the winter cleaning machines. The complex is located seven kilometers from the town of Ardino, the main road between the regional cities of Smolyan and Kardzhali. It was built on the territory of the preserve ( named to protect the only natural birch forest in the Rhodope Mountains ) and has about twenty huts and stations with a total capacity of 250 beds. The complex boasts air, who helps with pulmonary and allergic diseases. That is the reason why the Ministry of Health to declare resort of national importance.
