Route Uzana Hut - Shipka Pass

The starting point of the route is located in the area Usana hut . It is located near the geographical center of Bulgaria ( half hour walk) and is tucked under Shipka peak of Stara Planina - Ispolin ( 1524 meters altitude ) . The hut is a three-storey building with a large dining room and a spacious terrace with beautiful views of the area. "Usana" has been recently refurbished and provides the comfort and convenience of tourists.

The transition from hut to pass "Shipka" , one of the main arteries connecting North and South Bulgaria , lasts about two hours and a half and has a low level of difficulty, which makes it suitable for all seasons, families with young children, tourists with not very good physical condition . Starting point for the area Usana is Gabrovo , which connects 22 -kilometer asphalt road.

The route follows the main ridge of the Balkan Mountains and waters east of the lodge. The move is part of the route E-3 " Kom - Emine " and easily recognizable , marked with red markings. From there take the road which soon turns into forest road and leads to the saddle at the foot of Mount Markov stol (1352 m ) , located at the end of Uzana .

If desired, you can easily climb to the top and offering excellent views of the Central Stara Planina. From the saddle the route continues east , crossing mixed forest and reaches the site of a fountain. Is the first and only serious physical challenge route - steep ascent of Mount Malusha ( 1341 m ) . From here to the ultimate goal of transition, the highest point of the Shipka Pass (1185 m) , remains about half an hour leisurely drive through the beautiful forest.

Pass offers the opportunity to take to the North or South Bulgaria by bus and climb of Mount Saint Nicholas ( 1326 m ) where is a Monument of Freedom. Shipka Pass is a convenient starting point also Buzludzha (2 hours and a half ) , Sokolski monastery "Assumption" ( half an hour ) , architectural and ethnographic complex "Etura" ( 2:00 ), and the towns of Gabrovo (2 hours and a half ) and Shipka ( 2:00 ) .
