Dzhendema reserve is the largest , located in the Central Balkan National Park . It is located south of Botev peak to peak Ravnets over Kalofer. Covers the White River watershed , upstream of the river Tunja River gorge and Taja . It was established in 1953, covers an area of ​​4220.2 hectares . Later it was recognized as a biosphere reserve in the framework of the UNESCO " Man and Biosphere " . Its name comes from Turkish, so people called this area " Djendema" or " hell ." In fact this is the most inaccessible part of the mountain . The slopes are very steep cut by numerous channels , precipices , almost vertical rocks, cliffs , rock edges and inaccessible valleys. Forests cover 70% of its territory as they are mostly beech and mixed. Their ages ranged between 100 and 150 years. There are many rare species of plants and their number exceeds that in neighboring reserves. The reserve found large mammals like the wolf , chamois , red deer , and the emblem of the National Park "Central Balkan" - bear. Tourist routes that pass through the reserve are very beautiful with many scenic views . In Djendema road passes to climb the highest peak in the Balkan Mountains - Botev ( 2376 ) . The reserve is the highest waterfall in Bulgaria - Praskaloto - 124.5 m , surrounded by Paradise rocks . To the left of the waterfall passes steep path , equipped with railings - Tarzan panoramic trail - summer time to Botev Peak. The only lodge within the reserve is hut "Paradise" . By the way there is no road - only reached on foot or on horseback. Starting point for hiking trails , the resort is " Panitsite " located 7 km north of Kalofer.
