Kazanlak - Museum of the Rose

Ethnographic complex in Kazanlak is located near downtown. The entrance is from the church of St. Elijah the prophet, which was recently renovated. In 1967 opened the museum to Kazanlak rose, which in 1969 grew into the world's only Museum of the Rose. With rich material, photographs and documentary material is monitored 330 year history of the Bulgarian rose. Below are the original vessels for the production of rose oil - cookers, storage and export - bottles, boxes, containers for separating the rose oil from rose water; patterns of commercial houses, original photos and documents of commercial families and others.

In the yard of the Rose Museum is restored primitive cooking vessel of roses, which in May - June is acting.

Tourists have the opportunity to purchase pink, lavender and peppermint oil products at oil rose, rose liqueur, rose brandy and souvenirs related to lifestyle and culture of rose-oil producers. The museum is located in three main halls, which are shown: original photographs and documents for the development of rose production in the Renaissance and early 20 th century; processing tools rose gardens, containers for storage and export of rose oil and rose water; history of Bulgarian commercial houses materials related to the history of the Institute of Rose and modern rose. Museum of Rose enjoys great interest in Bulgarian and foreign tourists. Annually, every first weekend of June in Kazanlak organize Traditional Rose Festival, which offers visitors unforgettable memories associated with beauty, joy and hospitality of the Bulgarians.

Picking still about a month - from May 20 to June 20, but depends on the weather of spring. Perform early morning from 5 am to 9-10 am. The technology that underlies the production of the famous rose oil is a double distillation. In primitive way of loading one still needed 15 kg roses and 60 l pure water. The process is laborious - 1 kg of rose oil is obtained from 3000 kg roses and 1 gram - a 1000 roses.
