In Kyustendil is the largest and most extensive art gallery in the country. Founded in 1944 and originally housed in the Ahmed Bey Mosque and later in the building of the former Jewish synagogue. Today the gallery is housed in specially built for that purpose building with natural overhead lighting and is open in 1972 on the occasion of 90th anniversary of its patron Vladamir Dimitrov - the Master. The great painter was born in Frolosh village, but his family moved later in Kyustendil. Its specific style can not be mistaken - his paintings are very impressive with its living colors and unique patterns. Much of his paintings are portraits and landscapes. Nature is central to the Master paintings, displayed in broad strokes and colors of similar hue.

Today the gallery has nearly 3,200 works by 585 artist by 1357 they were the work of Vladimir Dimitrov. Visitors to the Art Gallery "Vladimir Dimitrov-The Master" can buy postcards, books and catalogs, containing reproductions of the most emblematic works of the artist.
