Karangil Cave is a limestone massif in the fortress "Hissar" , a 15 minute walk from the center of the village of Broad Field - Kardzhali district. It was formed in limestone cliffs, three , inhabited by several species of bats and the world's only Spider "Centromerusmilleri". Its length is 490 meters , displacement : 15 m , altitude : 340 m It has three floors and dry cave , the longest in the Eastern Rhodopes . The first floor has a length of 180 meters. It enters through the two vertical inputs that are relatively narrow . More than 40 years, the first floor was flooded , but over time water has seeped through and disappeared. Not far from it is the largest room in the cave. It was the bottom of an underground lake , but the construction of a nearby fountain water has seeped and now the bottom is dry .
The second floor is reached after overcoming using a rope ladder or the 10- meter chimney. Situated on the first floor and has dimensions - length 65 m and an average height of 2 m floor is covered with rocks and bat guano . The first and second floors are occupied by the bat colony . The third floor is hardly attainable , even with alpine equipment.
On the floor of the third floor found ceramic fragments from the Early Bronze Age . Near the present entrance and found coins from the time of the Roman emperors Septimius Severus and Gordian II. There is a danger of rock falls and landslides . During the five -meter narrow chimney leads to the third floor.
The walls and ceiling have drapes ( curtains ) , 50 stalactites and stalagmites . The cave is a layer of very soft limestone , in some places there are landslides of earth and stones, which restrict access to some of the Terrain before galleries.
There have been 11 species of invertebrates , of which the most interesting are the spider Centromerus milleri, centipede Rhodopiella beroni and beetles Bureschiana drenskii and Laemostenus cimmerius. In the caves they live two species of horseshoe bats , large bats (M. bly thii / myotis) and white tip bats.
The cave is not suitable to visit in winter.
