Church "St. John Aliturgetos" or "St. John unlit" is located in the southern part of Old Town, over the coast.

The church was built in XIII-XIV century. It is strongly affected by the earthquake in 1913, but before it did not function. According to legend, the church has no dedication (hence the name "aliturgetos" - "unlit" in Greek), because during construction killed one of the workers. Meanwhile, according to some sources, the church conducted worship.

Although not well preserved and damaged by the earthquake, the church marks the highest point in the construction of religious buildings in this brilliant Renaissance period to medieval Bulgaria. Most typical are the facades of the church. This picturesque style reached its highest development, brick decoration is in its heyday. By skillfully alternating white stone and red bricks, combined with ceramic plates were obtained at various ornaments, which are truly multi-colored embroidery. All facades are designed differently. Especially beautiful is made unspoiled eastern facade of the church with its three apses dissected decorated with graceful and elegant niches.

Of all the famous churches in Bulgaria from the period, here most Arab influence is evident in the decoration.

The church was restored, but not completely. It is included in a future project of Nessebar conservation of cultural and architectural monuments in 'Old Nessebar”. Admission is free.
