One of the places that combine great pleasure to catch fresh fish and memorable picnic or barbecue is Jrebchevo dam. Located near Nova Zagora in a beautiful mountain place, surrounded by forest and hills. The dam is the fourth-largest in Bulgaria after Mandra dams, Iskar and cold well. There are numerous bags which offer excellent fishing conditions. For lovers of tents and sleeping under the open sky many hidden places are ideal for this purpose. During the summer months these places are filled with people wanting to cool near the dam.

The dam is actually artificial. In 1965 the village, which was named after - Zhrebchevo was submerged in the lake. It is situated on 25,000 acres. There is a church that to this day has remained there. Since summer dam is used to irrigate the surrounding farmland, its levels are often significantly reduced. The walls of the church you can see up to where it reached the water. The dam is a haven for waterfowl, some of them are listed in the Red Book of Bulgaria. The dam has been named an Important Bird Area.

To the barrier dam are the remains of a Roman fortress. Near the lake there are small hotels and villas that offer modern holiday. At about 7 km from the "Zhrebchevo" is Banya where there are mineral springs and mineral baths built, known as "Kortenski spa."
