Reserve "Bajuvi Dupki-Dzhindzhiritsa" was established in 1934. In 1977 the reserve was included in UNESCO Biosphere Reserves of UNESCO's program - "Man and Biosphere".
The reserve is located between the peaks "Pirin" and "Swim suhodol." "Baiuvi Dupki-Dzhindzhiritsa" was declared a reserve in order to preserve valuable forests unique to Europe, black and white fir, pine, a large number of relict species, many neoendemits, glacial refuges for flora and diverse fauna, including rare for Bulgaria and European species, habitat of wild goats. Total area of reserve is 2858.5 ha. Here are the largest deposits of alpine edelweiss and “zhlezistochashkova ochanka” in Europe.
In the lowest parts of the reserve forests are cherborovi and mixed beech-conifer. Gradually move to mixed spruce-pine-fir, with single mountain ash and maple. Above them are the forests of white pine (Balkan endemic) and black pine (Balkan subendemit). Above 2100 m asl start pine, which occur Siberian juniper and broom Balkans. They reached the rocky terraces and scree. The average age of trees on the hill Dzhindzhiritsa is over 300 years and individual trees are aged about 1100-1200 years. The reserve is a refuge for many species. Among common representatives of the birds are golden eagle, falcon, falcon hobby, pigeon hralupar, Rock Partridge, hazel hens, capercaillie, haidouk crow, wood pigeons, woodpeckers and many others. Typical inhabitants include various types of large mammals, whose presence is evidence of preserved wilderness. In subalpine meadows and steep rocky terrain of 2200-2600 m asl can be seen herds of wild goats in the dwarf pine and white fir forests pristine live bears, wolves, foxes, deer.
The reserve is subject to cognitive tourism, traffic is carried on the specified routes. More information about the reserve can be obtained from the Visitor Center National Park "Pirin" in Bansko.
