Plovdiv - Old Town

Old Town, known as the complex is situated on a natural ancient hill called three hills - hills Djambaz, heaven and Taksim. Architectural reserve Old Plovdiv is well-preserved complex in which a small area we can walk through different ages, to see ancient buildings adapted to modern life, and feel the atmosphere of the city during the Renaissance. Asymmetric houses, typical of mountain villages, with open porch are no longer satisfied the aesthetic requirements of wealthy people and they began to build their homes in a new model, they decorated with frescoes and ornaments and furniture with a variety of fine items. Thus a unique style of Renaissance House, a beautiful combination of Western and Oriental influence. More interesting objects from the Renaissance period are Mavridi house, Nedkovich house, the house of Stepan Hindlian, Balabanov house Kuyumdzhieva house and others. In the interesting houses are located and three exposures of the Regional History Museum.

Over the centuries, have lived here many nations. Everyone is left as remnants of their culture. During the Roman Empire, Plovdiv (then Trimontium) was an important regional center. More interesting objects from Roman times are Amphitheatre, the Roman Stadium, the Roman Forum and the residential building "Eirene". From the medieval period has left the east gate of the wall - the famous Hissar point. Ottoman troops invaded Plovdiv in 1364, giving a new direction of development. From this period are preserved Dzhumaya Mosque (located in the center of town to the ancient stadium), a pair of bathroom (built in 1582, now converted into a center for contemporary art) and the clock tower from the XVI century clock on top of the hill.

Certainly walking around Old Town is a walk through the centuries. Here every street is unique, every house different. Most sites are open from 8.30 to 17h every day, and entrance fees are 5 lev per site. Places to stay and entertainment in Plovdiv are many and for every pocket, if even just passing through, you can not miss the beauty of this region.
