Central Rila Reserve

Central Rila Reserve is the largest reserve in the Balkans. Created in 1992 to preserve the ecosystems typical of areas with different altitudes in their original condition . The reserve covers an area of 12,394 ha area in the high parts of eastern , central and northwestern Rila Mountains. Here are developed typical mountain and alpine ecosystems. The terrain at the top is a typical Alpine - rocky cliffs , screes and thresholds, which occupy about two-thirds of the area of the reserve.
