Rila National Park

Rila National Park is the largest national park in Bulgaria. It is located 100 km. South of Sofia, in the Central and the highest parts of the Rila Мountain. The Rila mountain is long an inviting place for relaxation and for the mountaineers, and the aesthetes, and for people in search of eternal happiness. So, if you're in Borovets on holiday, then you should not miss to spice up your holiday with walks in the mountain among the green meadows, lovely pine groves and crystal-clear mountain lakes.Rila National Park provides many good opportunities for development of eco and mountain hiking. Huts in the Park and the network of maintained hiking trails are a good basis for hiking. Go through the Park and the two main European tourist route E4 and E8. For lovers of wild nature, extreme sports, horse riding and mountain biking, and to reduce the adverse impact on nature, specialized routes are developed in the Park. One of them is already include botanical route "Friends of plants". Along with the natural beauty, the area of Rila National Park is rich in cultural and historical sites and allows for the presentation of local lifestyle and culture. The hot mineral springs in the settlements around the Park are additional tourist attraction and create opportunity for the development of the balneotherapy. In the National Park "Rila" fall "," Parangalica "," Central "," reserve "IBAR" and "Skakavitsa" each of them is unique in structure, biodiversity and animal world. Natural resources are a constant source of inspiration – high Rocky rounded peaks with the whimsical shapes of crests, deep precipices with vertical walls that seem to sink into infinity, crystal clear lakes and fast, turbulent rivers await you in the nature park Rila.

If you love adventures and your blood boiling uneasily, it necessarily take the ascent to the Summit of Mount Rila, Musala peak. Musala peak is a favorite place for keen climbers and mountaineers. There are High and meteorological observatory and the Base environmental Observatory "Musala". The name Rila is derived from the Thracian "roula", which means "great water". Here are some of the most p″lnovodnite and long rivers on the Balkan Peninsula – Iskar, Maritsa and Places. Visit the seven RILA Lakes at least once in your life, to feel that you are alive today and now. At peak Maliovitsa is reached by path, starting from the Central Mountain School "maliovitsa". Pass through "maliovitsa", and hence a marked trail after about 3 hours to reach the ultimate goal. The starting point is the village of Govedartsi.

Of all 326 monuments of cultural heritage in frontpark zone of the National Park "Rila", 2 are global: furnaces for the smelting of iron in Kulaceto, 2 km south of the village of Bistritsa (municipality Dupnitsa) and late-antique fortress in m. Topoliane, 1.5 km southeast of the village of Bachevo.

Near the Park is the Rila Monastery. Detailed information and materials about the possibilities for hiking in the National Park "Rila" can be found in the visitor's Center in Panichishte and at the offices of the Directorate.
