Scary Lake

Scary lake is a lake of glacial origin located in the Rila Mountains. Was formed in Prekorech circus and is the highest and largest of all the lakes formed therein, with a total area of 14.4 hectares. Located in the northern foothills of the Small and Medium Kupen in 2465 meters altitude. Its length reaches 200 meters and width of 75 meters and is 2 meters deep . The lake drains into the valley of the third Preka river . Scary lake is not part of the top destinations in the Rila mountain , but instead it raises interest in any keen mountaineer herself . It is said that the sheer cliffs and talus that surround it and its lonelyness in the mountains, are responsible for the severity and the wild grandeur of the lake. When lightning and thunder , the color of the water changes and the powerful sounds echo in the rocks surrounding it . But hey, what lake would not be " scary " in such circumstances . On the northern shore of the lake was built shelter bearing the same name. From here you can head to the following destinations near mountain : shelter Kobilino reservation (2.00 pm) ; Mechi hut (5.30 pm) ; Ribni Lakes ( 6.00 ) Maliovitsa (2.30 pm) , the Rila Monastery ( 4:30 pm) . Convenient starting point for the scary lake can be Central Mountain School " Maliovitsa ." Leaving the parking lot marked by a green trail . Going this route , you can see even Yonchevo picturesque lake, named after the famous painter Samokov - Christo Ionchev - Criskaretz . It will take about two and half hours away. To the scary lake can go and after a long trek - from hut "fish ponds " - in shelter " Kobilino branishte" , or from the village of Govedartsi.
