Musala is the highest peak in Bulgarian and Balkan Peninsula with a height of 2925 m, measured from the level of the port of Varna. On the top there is a meteorological station of the National Institute of meteorology and hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.

Average annual temperature-1.8 ° c. An average of 250 days of the year on Musala is snow. It will take 3-4 hours to climb Mount Musala, if you use a Lift from Borovets to Yastrebets, and then follow the CE conformity marking, which goes to the chalet and continues to the very top. The climb in Borovets ski gondola and after about 25 minutes you will be in the Yastrebets. From there you can enjoy the panorama, which is revealed to the high peaks of RILA Mountain. If you look south, you will face the vertices Irechek, Deno, Little Musala, Musala and Aleko. Lift costs 10 BGN for adults. After the last stop of the gondola, follow the marking to the chalet. A mild stroll along Alpine meadows will take you to the waters of the lakes and the chalet. The road passes through Markudjik slope. After less than an hour you will reach the chalet. It is one of the oldest lodges in Bulgarian. The hut is located on the Musalenskoto Lake. Price for overnight stay all year round is 15 BGN. From the Chalet hike to the Musala peak will take approximately 2 hours. The trail is well marked and cleaned and the beginning is from the north side of the Lake. After half an hour walking you will reach the beautiful Alekovo Lake.

One hour's drive from the Lake is a shelter "Ledeneto Lake". If it's cold and windy shelters is an ideal place for a break before the last part of the hike to the top. Musala is only 30 min. time of the shelters. The trail takes you up to the top, and although you may be tempted to continue on with the stakes Winter Trail, which runs along the Northeast Ridge of Musala, much easier to follow the summer tourist route. Winter Trail is really steep and therefore secured with wire rope.

The view from the top is really dizzying – you can safely enjoy the other peaks of the Rila mountains, the sharp peaks of the Pirin mountains, the mountains of Vitosha and Sredna gora, the Green ridges and slopes of the Rhodopi mountain and finally, but not least, the majestic mountains.

At the top you can drink tea and take print, because the peak is part of the 100 national tourist sites, and the seal is in the meteorological station.
