Rojen monastery

Rozhen monastery located in the Pirin mountain, about a kilometer from the village Rozhen, 6 km from Melnik and 16 km from Sandanski. Asphalt road from Melnik leads directly to the gates.

Rozhen monastery is one of the largest and oldest in Bulgaria. It is not known exactly when it was founded, but reportedly in the 13th century already existed. It is surrounded by spectacular scenery - including the picturesque limestone cliffs and dense forests skolonovete the Pirin Mountains.

In Rozhen monastery you can see the dwellings of the monks, called cells, the kitchen, which say a kitchen, dining room, where the monks eat and winter chapel, where they pray in the cold snowy days. The buildings surround the courtyard on all sides, creating a unique comfort and relaxation. In the middle is the main church of the Nativity Church. Today Rozhen monastery is well maintained and is open to visitors throughout the year. The monastery's holiday is on September 8, when people from throughout the region gather to participate in the festivities. Rozhen monastery does not offer accommodation and food, but Melnik is very close.
