Samuilitsa Cave

Samuilitza a prehistoric cave settlement discovered in the area of Malak dol 1.5 km north of the village Kunino , Vratsa . The village has a signboard that leads to the entrance of the cave and almost reached by car there.

The findings of this settlement are dated to the late Middle and early Upper Palaeolithic and are classified as examples of musterska culture, ie settlement probably was inhabited by Neanderthals . Located about 10 km . distance from the cave settlements found in Dark Hole ( Karlukovo ) and furnace (old village) . Excavations were started in 1956 by Nikolai Dzhambazov and continued by him during 1958-1959 are included and students of primary school in the village Kunino .

The village is situated in two caves, spaced 30 meters apart - Samuilitza Samuilitza I and II. The smaller one is Samuilitza I . Is 29 m long and has a displacement of 4 m no side branches. Her impressive entrance 14 is wide and 7 meters high and is visible from afar. It provides natural light throughout the day. Deep water flat and bright gallery .
