The history of Samokov Monastery began 240 years ago. Founded in 1772 by Grandmother Fota of Samokov, who donated to the Rila Monastery her own house and founded a nunnery in it. Nunnery grew as to the main building were added new buildings donated by local people. In the nineteenth century convent has developed extensive educational activity.

The church was built in 1837 - 1839, have gradually been built a kitchen and other buildings and cloister became a monastery complex. Some of the icons in the temple were made by Dimitar Zograf and in the porch you can see paintings by patron Mary, who is believed to be created by Zachary Zograf.

The altar of the Cathedral has three conch, and the architecture of the church has many features typical of the construction of schools and Dryanovo Tryavna. It is believed that the temple was built by Tryavna masters Dimitar Sergiov.

The temple can be seen icons of the Virgin Mary with Child, Jesus Christ, Saints Cyril and Methodius and others. There is a view that the icons in the iconostasis of the church are the work of Hristo Dimitrov - the father of Zachary and Dimitar Zograf, considered the founder of Samokov Art School.

Samokov Monastery is a functioning convent. The church is his feast on October 1. More about the history of the monastery visitors can learn of the news items that are sold in the Catholic Church. One of the nuns could also tell more, preferably in advance. The talk is not paid. The monastery does not offer accommodation.
