Senokos ( Simitli Municipality , Blagoevgrad District) is located in the northern part of Pirin. Located nearly 1,000 meters above sea level and is located at a short distance from the National Park "Pirin" between all villages in the Simitli Municipality. It is one of the most convenient starting points for Pirin ( 2593 m ) - the northern alpine peak in the eponymous mountain. Albeit at a population of only about 40 people, Senokos is a preferred destination for lovers of mountain tourism and offers visitors several routes of varying difficulty .
The first one starts from the village center and immediately turns north . Once you arrive at the local pub , the route turns to the right direction , following a dirt road that goes behind her after kilometer trek through beautiful open and wooded areas , the route reaches the picturesque hamlet of Chakarska that its architecture and radiation seems has timeless appeal of the Bulgarian Revival .
At the end of the quarter the route continues following steep horse trail leading to Mount Saint Nicholas from which reveal great panoramic views across Northern Pirin. Here the trail splits and must be careful not to miss the right direction , although no serious danger of losing in the mountains.
The right fork leads to Gradishteto where still visible remains of an ancient fortress. It is a large flattened saddle covered with large grass arrays. According to the locals hence the name of the village as it was known in the area with the big haymaking , which are arranged in the summer in Gradishte .
The trail has a relatively short length and average difficulty level. Travels with easy walk for about two hours and is suitable for experienced tourists and for very beginners or inadequately prepared physically mountaineers . Proximity to settlements makes it an excellent destination for nature lovers adults and groups with small children. The route is marked in green and offers a lot of places suitable for camping and recreation in the depths of one of the most majestic mountains in Bulgaria , while we do not face the harsh and primary nature of the highest part of Pirin.
