Kosmatka is Thracian mound near Shipka, in which is find one of the most magnificent and richest Thracian tombs with fully preserved tomb of a Thracian king, buried with his horse. Thracian Tomb of Seuthes III is located 1 km south of Shipka and 12 km north of Kazanlak. Discovered in 2004 tomb was built during the second half of V century BC. There are no golden crown of the ruler, gold „kiliks” (wine glass), knee pads and helmet, applications for horse-trappings, etc.. Which are presented in the Historical Museum in Kazanlak. Remarkable is ritually buried front facade bronze head from the statue of Seuthes III, which is quite detailed. It is important evidence for the Thracian Orphic rites.
The tomb consists of three chambers and a corridor with a total length of 26 m first room is rectangular and it was found the skeleton of a horse. The second room is round and dome-shaped roof 450 cm tall at the entrance of this room is a marble door with images. The third room is a monolithic granite block - sarcophagus weighing about 60 tons. It is with great precision carved room in which the stone bed of the Thracian king buried here. The tomb is part of the Valley of the Kings, which also includes the Kazanlak Tomb and the tombs and temples found in large mounds Arsenalka, Shoushmanets, Helvetia, griffins, and Ostrusha saint.
Custodians of Kazanlak Historical Museum offer tour and lectures in Bulgarian (5 lev), English and German (15 lev). From November to May tomb is open only on request for large groups.
