Regional History Museum Smolyan

Established in 1935 by Stoyu Nedelev Shishkov - teacher, publisher, and public figure with a European dimension, the Historical Museum in Smolyan is the largest museum preserves the signs of memory population that inhabited the central part of the Rhodopes in various historical ages. The museum is located in the city center, but in his expositions and funds held approximately 150,000 objects from history, life and culture of the native people. The permanent exhibition of the museum - "Cultural and historical heritage of the Rhodopes from antiquity to the present day" has several sections. The tour of the museum begins with exposure Rhodope bells. In the hall "Prehistory" visitors can see objects from archaeological excavations carried out in some caves. Found out in Yagodinska pottery, spindle, clay pots and more. An interesting fact is that in studies of Yagodinska is found pottery from the Neolithic period.

One of the valuable exhibits of the museum are found in Mogilitsa molds for casting bronze objects dating from the XIV - XIII century BC. Another collection of the museum tells about the presence of the Thracians in the Rhodopes.

In ethnographic exposition Rhodope traditional costumes of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries Visitors can see women everyday and festive costume, and various types of mens suits, popular in the Middle Rhodopes. In the hall "Ritual interior" are traditions surrounding Rhodope wedding. On mummers costumes and masks is given special attention. In room "Tradition and Modernity" are the traditions of Easter, St. George, Baba Marta is exposed and traditional Bulgarian instruments.

In the museum you can buy souvenirs and informational materials. Lecture cost 10 BGN and to shoot with the camera you have to pay 5 BGN. Thursday is a free day for visitors.
