Reserve " Bistrishko branishte" is one of the first parks in Bulgaria . Located on the northeast slope of Vitosha peak in Great slice and peak Skoparnik in the catchment area of the river Bistrica River and Yanchevska . Its territory has an area of 1,061.6 hectares - 52% forest and 48% meadow - subalpine and alpine grasslands . In 1977, " Bistrishko branishte" is defined as a Biosphere Reserve under UNESCO's International Programme "Man and the Biosphere . Its purpose is to preserve primary ecosystems of spruce and subalpine zone species . The predominant forest type is spruce , whereas impurities and beech . There are also birch, aspen , white fir. The average age of the forest is 100-120 years , and the average tree height exceeds 25 meters oldest spruce trees are 140-150 years , with a diameter of 1.30 m to a relatively small area of the reserve is met seven botanical varieties . Of grass species can be found woodruff , rabbit sorrel Vranski eye ezhovcheto and many others. In the shady pine trees can be seen saprophytic plants - orchids and samostrak . Coniferous forest and subalpine vegetation in the reserve set various habitats that determine the greatest wealth of wildlife. The reserve is found about two -thirds of the park found in 804 species and subspecies of invertebrates . The large mammals that places can still be seen red deer , roe deer , wild boar , wolf and bear. Due to poaching numbers of these species has been significantly reduced in recent years and they are threatened with extinction. Rich and varied is the bird world. There are Goldcrest , Crossbill , Cypress Siskin , Bullfinch and more. Can often see the big woodpecker and black woodpecker. Movement of tourists within the reserve is allowed only on certain routes : from complex to Aleko Bistrica , Zheleznitsa and place Pogledetz . To visit outside the marked trails to be authorized by the Ministry of Environment and Water.
