In the " Gradishteto" , 4 km from the city of Sofia, rising Kremikovski monastery "St. George " . Situated on the southern slopes of the Balkan Mountains and built on a rocky terrace of the monastery has a beautiful view of the wide Sofia field and capital. Most likely, the monastery was built during the Second Bulgarian Empire , during the reign of Tsar Ivan Alexander (1331-1371 ) . Like many other Bulgarian monasteries and Kremikovski serves as a haven for freedom fighters during the Ottoman rule. Found refuge here is one of Hristo Botev's detachment - Dimitar Stefanov - Cossack . According to historical records , he was the second bearer in Botev.

Kremikovski monastery and nature of the Balkan Mountains are the object of inspiration for Bulgarian writer and poet Ivan Vazov . In 1897 he visited the monastery . Impressions of the Patriarch of Bulgarian literature are immortalized in a wonderful travelogue .

After the liberation in Kremikovtsi Monastery settled twenty refugee nuns from Maleshev that contribute to the revival and popularity of the monastery. From now began building quite innovative built - largest church " Shroud of Mary ," Mother Superior building and other buildings. From the middle of XX century in Kremikovtsi Monastery longer live 32 nuns who have resorted to farming. After a period of withering away of the spiritual life in the monastery , as it are housed military for 18 years. During this time many of the murals remain in plaster of lime, and some of the buildings are burned . Among them was the library . After scattering the military , the nuns returned to Kremikovtsi Monastery. Nowadays the monastery is permanent and consists mainly of two buildings and two churches. Although Kremovski monastery does not offer accommodation and food , it is an ideal place for relaxation are citizens of Sofia. In the courtyard of the monastery complex are placed tables and benches available for tourists.

The monastery is the town Fosia in Kremikovci neighborhood . No instructions signs, but the dome of the new church is clearly visible from several kilometers away .
