National Gallery for Foreign Art opened on 5/11/1985 as an art gallery on the first International Foundation in Bulgaria, which is now called "St. Cyril and Methodius ". The story of its creation is related to a decade of collecting and organizational activities during the 70s and 80s of the last century. Gallery building is a reconstruction of the old State Printing House, designed by Viennese architect Friedrich Schwanberg was partially destroyed by bombing during the Second World War.
In its present form, consistent with the functions of a modern gallery is the work of famous Bulgarian architects, artists, art critics and arrangers. On four floors in 19 halls with a total exhibition area of 3,200 square meters is shown most precious funds gallery holds over 10,000 museum objects, graphics, painting, sculpture, applied arts.
The Balkan Peninsula National Gallery for Foreign Art in Sofia is only of its kind. It has a unique collection of Christian sculpture from the Indian province of Goa which only in Portugal and Great Britain, "Poetic Reality", which no other museums.
Gallery is unique to the nature of the collection - the art of distant lands, exotic tribes, old and new times, interlaced with modern European trends, traditional and religious pictorial principles chronological span of a millennium.
The museum has a permanent exhibition, clip art hall for temporary exhibitions. Permanent exhibition halls of the overflow from one art to another and surprise visitor - Indian sculpture, engraving Japanese, African and Buddhist art, European painting ... a different world.
To shoot you have to pay 10 lev. Entrance fee for students is three BGN. Every last Monday of the month entrance is free. On Tuesday, the museum rests.
