National Palace of Culture is located in downtown Sofia. It is a multifunctional complex, synthesis of modern architecture and plastic arts. Opened in 1981 the building of a palace of culture, was conceived in the late 70-ies of last century, by Lyudmila Zhivkova - daughter of the former party and state leader of Bulgaria - Todor Zhivkov. The facade above the main entrance is decorated with symbols of the NPC - a stylized image of the sun, which, according to author George Chapkanov must like ceilings of old Bulgarian houses. Magnificent spaces are spiritualized by more than one hundred works of monumental painting, sculpture, woodcarving, tapestry, metalworking and other genres. The huge building stands out against the backdrop of Mount Vitosha, and is known to every Bulgarian. It is high goals 8 floors above ground, but there are three underground levels. Itself has collected a total of 13 halls for 8,000 people, most among which is a hall with a capacity of 4000 seats. The lobbies of the Palace are the total area of 15,000 square meters and are preferred for holding exhibitions and fairs.
Today, NPC is the largest congress center not only in Sofia and Bulgaria, but throughout Southeast Europe. One of the biggest stars of world pop music and opera are filled halls of the palace. The center is primarily used for holding cultural events, making it the center of Bulgarian culture.
A long row of fountains adorns the square in front of the NPC, which is a favorite place for many residents and guests of the capital. There are many restaurants, walking paths and places for biking and skateboarding. Nearby is also the main shopping street Vitosha, and Earth and Man Museum. NPC is located in the center of the capital, making it convenient myaasto for meetings and outings.
