Revival church St. George

Revival church "St. George "is the largest active Orthodox church in Sozopol. It was built in 1860 and named after one of the most venerated saints in the Orthodox Church. St. George was a soldier and military commander during the Roman Empire, and died a martyr and defender of the Christian faith at the beginning of IV century building of the church "St. George " is a pseudo -basilica apse . It was built on the site of the old basilica. The temple was reconstructed and renovated several times. In its present form after the last reconstruction in 1991

Today, located in the old part of the town church preserves valuable icons from the second half of XIX century are temporarily stored here found in 2010 on the island of St. John the relics of St. John the Baptist. In the "St. George " in Sozopol kept a few Christian relics , including a piece of the Holy Cross, part of the relics of St. Andrew and a jar of ointment of the relics of St. Nicholas , on which is depicted the saint.
