The forum of the ancient Roman city of Augusta Trayana is an archaeological site in the central part of Stara Zagora, located behind the Courthouse. The site was discovered right after construction works near the Courthouse in the city.
Roman Forum complex is one of the most monumental structures in the Roman town of Augusta Trayana. The founder of the town is the Emperor Trayan (98-117), hence its name. The real building begins at Augusta Trayana Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Were built and two walls under ¬ stronger by 40 towers, the co ¬ s ever been discovered and studied only 11. Found and two of the city gates - south and west. The biggest impression Rules Forum complex at the western gate of the city. A unique feature of this complex is erected Theatron amphitheater facing the square of the complex. Has been arranged with ten tiers of stone seats, which were used by viewers to monitor receptions, meetings, parades, gladiator fights, etc.. Theatron was able to accommodate over 1,300 seated spectators. The square is paved with stone slabs, and in its center is reserved pedestal on which was placed imperial horse statue. North of Theatron are spacious baths that were public baths, but also play the role of social, spiritual and educational sports complex. The building has had more than 10 spacious rooms. It was located and the earliest school in town (early III century) - Severianov (Severski) gymnasium. The complex was destroyed in the middle of the V century, during the devastating raids of the Huns, led by Attila.
Today in ancient Forum was built platform for viewers and forum used to stage a number of opera, theater, ballet and festivals. Magnetic consists precisely in this, to enjoy the incredible performances of place that probably stood years ago Marcus Aurelius. That was the open and magnificent marble statue of the legendary Thracian singer, musician, poet and miracle worker Orpheus.
