Stob pyramids are among the most popular natural tourist sites in Bulgaria. Located near the village of Stob, from north and south side of the mountain ridge, as the north are more pronounced, while those to the south are more numerous and closely spaced.
The thickness of the pyramids is 30-40 m, their average height is 6-10 m and in places up to 12 m Some of the pyramids are sharp and needle-like, others are pyramidal or conical and ends with "rock" cap. Their picturesque compositions have different names - Towers, Chukite, Samodivski chimneys, Pinnacles, Brothers, Svatovete etc. Most are beautiful at sunset or the moonlight. The appearance of the rock formations there are many folk legends. For one group of rock formations - Svatovete are legends. One of them, the wedding turned into stones when the best man, struck by the beauty of the bride's veil lifted and tried to kiss her. Another legend says that the wedding turned into stones, cursed by the mother of the bride, who did not approve of the wedding.
Another legend tells of the doomed love between a Bulgarian woman and a Turkish boy. The girl could not bear the unfair treatment of their love and jumped from the rocks and the place appeared rocky pyramid, now called The Bride.
Pyramids of Stob village can be seen from the top of the existing eco and from the bottom of the cart-maintained road, winding along the foot scenic creek.
From the top of the pyramids is a lovely view of the entire Seven Rila bed, the river approaches to the Rila Monastery and snowy mountain peaks.
December, January and February are not suitable for visitors because the eco-trail is muddy or snowy. Discussions are included in entry fee. During the winter months working time up to 17h and Saturday and Sunday are holiday.
