On the road Sofia - Varna, about 6-7 km from Targovishte - towards Omurtag, crossing the beautiful countryside park in a small picturesque gorge of this part of the Fore, plaque will focus your attention somewhere up on the hills, overgrown purposes with forests, and trigger your curiosity to the ruins of the ancient Misionis.

According to studies, city Misionis occurs in the middle of the fifth century Vrana River. The construction of the fortress, which stretched over 150 acres of land, began during the reign of Emperor Justinian I and lasted until the beginning of the sixth century.

Its main purpose was to block the Slavs, Bulgars and Goths. Shortly before the formation of the Bulgarian state, however, the castle was destroyed and neglected. Later, at the end of the ninth century, the abandoned ruins gradually rises Bulgarian village and remnants of walls have been restored and re-sculptured as part of a defense system known today under our name "Krumovo kale."

Legend gives the name of the fortress, connecting it with the victory of Krum over the Byzantine Emperor Nicephorus I Genik. With strategic position Krumovo Kale is one of three fortresses guarded the pass Derventa, which means that the key task had to stop enemy invasions of the Second Bulgarian capital - Preslav, which have been in constant intense kontakti.Sashtata important defensive role play stronghold and then restoration of the Second Bulgarian Empire, although as a defender of the new capital - Veliko Tarnovo.
