This tourist route starts from Protobulgarian settlement in the area near the village of Topola Kovanlaka (Kavarna, Dobrich region). You should be aware that the archaeological site can only be accessed by car or dedicated transport, especially if you are not experienced travelers.
Kovanlaka is located three kilometers northwest of the village of Topola and only eight of one of the largest resorts on the Black Sea coast - Kavarna. Remained for many years away from the interests of the mass tourist Kovanlaka currently attracts more attention, not only because it is one of the largest archaeological sites associated with the early history of the Proto-Bulgarian settlements south of the Danube, but the incredibly beautiful scenery around.
Tucked away between the Dobruja plateau and the Black Sea coast, this place is characterized by a great variety of vegetation and its animal world, especially in ornithological terms, since here the road passes seasonal migration of migratory birds known as Via Pontica. However, most important for us Bulgarians is its value historically. In 1967 in Kovanlaka found many carved houses, administrative buildings and fortifications dating from the birth of Danubian Bulgaria. Nearby there is a huge necropolis, which are found almost six hundred graves.
The second stop on the route is a historical museum in Kavarna (street "Black Sea" 1), located in the restored building of the medieval bath known as Hamam. The complex includes an old, very beautiful fountain. The exhibition presents the development of the city and the region culturally, politically and economically from the early Middle Ages right up to the beginning of World War II.
It exhibits the large ceramic center and early settlement of the Bulgarians near the village of Topola, as well as numerous coin finds, are eloquent proof of the economic and political ties Karvun principality with Byzantium, Venice and Western trading powers in the Middle Ages.
The route ends at the cape, one of the most magnetic and legends framed with tourist destinations in the country. It is located twelve kilometers southeast of Kavarna and jutting nearly two kilometers offshore in places precipitous rocks that compose it, reach a height of seventy feet. Nature here really captures the harsh beauty and the nose offers amazing panoramic views of the Black Sea and nearby coastal areas that are no less impressive.
Cape was declared a natural and archeological reserve, within which includes wild steppes, coastal rock formations of the way for the seasonal migrations of Via Pontica and more than 400 species of plants. The ancient settlement of this place was founded in IV century BC tribe tirizi, and during the Roman fortress was expanded. In the years before the fall of Bulgaria under Ottoman rule cape became a flourishing commercial port. Then loses its meaning, but currently there is a museum where you can see thousands of exhibits and purchase information materials.
