On the banks of the Cherni Osam River, on the northern slopes of Stara Planina mountain, 400 meters above sea level rises Troyan Monastery "Uspenie Bogorodichno", the third largest in Bulgaria. It is 9 km southeast of Troyan and 189 km from Sofia. It is believed that in this place to 1600, came an unknown monk from Mount Athos and built a small wooden church. During the XVI and XVII century as all such venues, the monastery was repeatedly burned. During the Renaissance in 1830 about starting a new church building and residential premises. The monastery grew in educational and cultural center. In 1869 there opened a monastery school, where they studied nearly 100 children from neighboring villages. The monastery was repeatedly refuge for rebels, revolutionaries and fighters for national liberation. There often been hiding Vasil Levski. Church building is a unique architectural monument. North and west wall of the church have arches, and walls are built of several relief horsemen, pigeons and others. Impressive paintings and carvings in the church. Nearby passes Cherni Osam River, which flows from the high peaks of Stara Planina Ambaritsa and coupe. The river adds extra liveliness to the scene about the Troyan Monastery, which is today a popular place for tourist visits. For the convenience of visitors to the monastery in its frames are built restaurants and souvenir shops. For those willing to spend the night in the Troyan Monastery are available well furnished rooms with private bathroom (30 lv per person). It has a large parking lot.
