The Orthodox Church "St. St. Constantine and Elena "is situated in the old town of Veliko Tarnovo. It was built in 1872 by the famous Bulgarian Renaissance builder , architect and sculptor - Koliu Fitcheto , and his last architectural masterpiece. The church was consecrated on October 7, 1873 - the first Bulgarian bishop Ilarion . His other well-known projects are covered bridge in Lovech over the river Osam Kalifarevski monastery Patriarchal Monastery "St. Trinity " silk factory Stefan Karagiozov and many others.

In the 20 years of the twentieth century "St. St. Constantine and Helena " was rebuilt under the name " St. Tsar Boris . " So it exists , however, only a few years . It is also known as the church with " spin column " . Koliu Fitcheto said : "When the columns cease to rotate this means that the earth layers are unstable and the population must make forces to save the building from destruction ." However, they are gone. Currently the state of the church is not good. In the earthquake of 1913 the church suffered significant damage. During the 80 years of the twentieth century started restoration but due to lack of property records is terminated . The building is still dressed in scaffolding , but continues to erode.

Feature of the church, which has three naves , is that the interior is very beautiful and bright . The bright colors and heights in the building give utmost solemnity only entry in it. In building its Koliu Fitcheto very cleverly managed to combine a variety of architectural forms and elements , including semi-cylindrical , elliptic and cross vaults , and semicircular flattened arches ficheska famous rocker - all elements that serve as a business card self-taught master architect.

According to researcher Jordan Kuleliev "St. St. Constantine and Helena " was created during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom . Real evidence for the existence of an old religious building in this location , however, has from the 20s and 30s of the XIX century in the then situation she had documented life and unscrew the educational activity. The old church has acted in the October 5, 1873 (then recorded last service in it) , and on October 7, 1873 in a very solemn atmosphere was consecrated the new church. Continuity is indisputable.

Among the religious heritage of the church are icons painted by Pope Vitan of Tryavna school and from abroad at artist Nikolai Pavlovich .
