Unlike most tourist routes path from Veliko Tarnovo to the monastery "St. Transfiguration" is for two starting points . The reason for this is that by quarter "Varosha " and neighborhood 'Kartala' routes exist for the monastery , which at one time were merged to form the classic trail . Ecopath " Veliko Tarnovo - Transfiguration Monastery " is the picturesque gorge Derventa amphitheater located above the canyon of the river Yantra. The terrain through which passes the route is extremely diverse - forests consisting mainly of low-growing trees and shrubs , ridge meadows cut into the surrounding terrain little river gorge ... The trail is suitable for all seasons, in snow or rain should be careful in certain areas , which runs along the steep cliffs and secure .

From eco-trail passes again through a forest , then crosses a place where there are traces of excavation of an ancient village and monastery complex and descends gradually to the end point of the route - Transfiguration Monastery. Although it was founded in the XIV century, it acquired its present form in the XIX century. Then most of the buildings were built , and the catholic church " Holy Transfiguration ." It is known that it was built by Kolyo Fitcheto and murals were made by Zachary Zograph ( the most popular are " Circle of Life " and the altar ) . This store and the remarkable carving " royal doors " . Transfiguration Monastery is one of the most important cultural and educational centers in Bulgarian Revival.
