Cross barracks was built in 1801 in the place where the first is the garden of the Old Palace ( Palace of the Pasha ) . Used to Konak of Janissaries (house of the Aga of the Janissaries ) . Covered wooden bridge connecting it to the built adjacent foundry . After the liberation serves to court and barracks of the Bulgarian army.
Cross barracks building is massive, two-story , in the form of a cross with equal arms area to 1260m2 . Each wing has a corridor plan scheme with a different layout of the premises. It is not known the original layout of the building as it has changed several times according to the requirements of the new services. Stairs connecting the two levels are also reconstructed many times and are known to their original location and type . The walls in the basement and floors are made of stone and bricks of cement- sand raztvor.Obosobeni almost four private patio . Entrances to the building , located in the corners on the diagonals of the square its central core, determine the development of two new axes. These two axes are different from the centreline of the barracks itself passing through the corridors of the wings and determined the pattern of a cross.
Museum " Cross Barracks " is part of the regional museum complex in Vidin and the building due to its uniqueness is a monument of culture of local importance. Since 1969 there is an ethnographic exhibition featuring the traditional culture of the population of the Vidin region from the end of the XIX to 20s of XX century. artifacts occupy two main floors in several rooms are at especially valuable exhibits telling about the life and lifestyle of the local people. Among the most interesting are those that show ritual and traditional costumes of the region.
