The starting point of this route is the Gabrovo village Zeleno durvo (Green tree). It is located in a mountainous area on the road from the town to the resort area Usana , which is the geographic center of Bulgaria . According to legend, the village owes its name to a huge fir, where four people holding hands barely touched . It became part of the natural park "Bulgarian", has exceptionally beautiful scenery and is the starting , intermediate or end point of many tourist destinations in the Central Balkan Mountains.
In the first part the particular route , the main asphalt road from Gabrovo to Usana , though village Zeleno durvo is related to the tourist area marked by a mountain path. The climb is smooth and passes through beautiful ancient forest , so most suitable for transition to spring , summer and autumn months , although winter tour will reveal the beauty of the Balkan Mountains.
From the village to Uzana route deviates from the road only the widest coils that are crisscrossed by trails . Distance takes about 3 hours and hut "Usana" lies to the east, following the marking of the international route E-3 ( Kom and Emine ) while climbing Mount Malusha ( 1341 meters altitude ) . Hence reveal stunning views of Shipka Bouzloudj,a array of Triglav and the sub-Balkan valley .
From the top of the track turns sharply to the north , following the wide path along the ridge of the hill Magaryovets . This section is well marked with white - yellow- white markings . It should be followed in the barely crest of low relief tip indicated as elevation 889 . From the track descends to the northeast to the neighborhood " Radetzky " .
The descent is pleasant, without significant gradients to strain the joints. The whole transition takes about 7 hours and require relatively good physical training , and experiences in mountaineering , although the route is well marked and does not involve loss . Need to be informed about weather conditions from a reliable source , because the Stara Planina always carries risks of sudden raging storms.
