"Gold Field" has been declared a protected area in 2001. It includes the old bed of the Maritza, which is divorced from the river in the 50s of last century. It is located near the village of Gold Field. The protected area includes several ponds of varying size and depth, cane plantations, islands and grasslands. This is the largest wetland natural character along the Maritsa River.
The protected area "Gold Field" is the most typical of feathered creatures, mostly waterfowl species. The main reason for visiting the lake Martvitsata is fishing. Also the site is visited by school groups for educational purposes. Although not a popular tourist destination, the protected area is a great place for recreation in nature.
The boundary of the protected area is well marked. Access to anywhere is easy with a few exceptions. There is a dirt road that goes around the protected area and is suitable for walking and cycling. In the protected area can make kayaks and other boats. Suitable for mountain biking or just stroll and picnic in nature! For holiday is intended so-called tourist area on the western edge of the protected area. In the eastern part there are two observation towers, which are intended to monitor the avian fauna and biodiversity.
