Beglika dam is located in the western part of the Rhodope Mountains, the river curve , the land of the Batak of 1,525 meters above sea level. The dam wall is built between the cities Dospat and Batak , adjacent to Route 37. Into operation in 1951 , it was originally designed for irrigation of Plovdiv area, but subsequently used to power hydroelectric power plants . Passes through the water from the Shiroka polyana Dam and from there to the corresponding hydro-electric plants. Together with other nearby dams - Batak Beglika and Shiroka polyana, became an attractive destination for many tourists from all over the country .

The area of the lake Beglika has a tradition of hunting tourism . In the area there are a variety of species and all the prerequisites for the development of the hunting of game . There are representatives of large mammals such as bears , deer , foxes, wolves and wild boar , and small mammals - rabbits , hedgehogs , squirrels . Near water bodies , there are many wild ducks and geese. Waters also has great fish wealth. There are types of roach , trout , perch , chub ( maple ) , rudd . Around the lake there is a road that is passable by car , sometimes passes directly along the shore , and some places in the forest. The overall length is about 25 kilometers, of which 20 are paved macadam and other 5 kilometers of asphalt .

Interestingly when the dam is that it has three beautiful islands, covered with pine trees. In the vicinity are several protected areas and reserves - Beglika Samodivska meadow Chatham and Batlaboaz . This amazing nature contributes to the formation of a variety of hiking trails that will be unforgettable for everyone.

One such tour can start from Trigrad rocks to pass through the village of Gela and finish off the waters of the lake. Through its waters can go boating or canoeing , which are provided by several clubs in adventure tourism . It is important to know that in the protected areas and reserves are not permitted hunting, camping and making fires . Since 2008 every August is held here and Beglika Fest - Festival of harmonious communication with nature , as the area becomes a meeting point for environmentalists , musicians, artists , athletes , volunteers, naturalists and others. Places for camping and driving around the lake are limited but distinct .
