The beach on the island of Belene is situated in its lower southeastern portion of the reserve "Persinski swamps." This is the largest Bulgarian island in the Danube and a large part of the (western) is used for agricultural activities. Also known as Persin or Belene island, it is the fourth area along the river after Slovak Jiten and Hungarian Islands Margit and Csepel.
Its length is a whole fourteen kilometers and width of up to five. From the Bulgarian coast separates Belene channel whose smallest width is 270 meters, but if you choose to relax here, you can rest assured because the island has a pontoon bridge. Places in the east that are suitable for sunbathing, are flooded by river due to its spring high water resulting from melting snow in the upper and middle reaches of the river, and the high levels of its tributaries.
In the summer, however, are clean, covered with fine sand and surrounded by incredible scenery. Here you can find a quiet place, which sunbathing, enjoying generous sunlight and tranquility that surrounds you. Large parts of the southeastern part of Belene Island is covered with lush vegetation (poplar, willow, aspen), and dozens of rare and endangered species of flora.
The Danube shore is shallow and not dangerous if you are careful enough so that you can swim in the calm waters of the river. However, keep in mind that the beach is unguarded and there are circumstances to predict. Furthermore, remember that in the protected area "Persinski swamps" forbidden to light a fire and any other human activities that leave lasting traces on wildlife. However, the place is the abode of more than one hundred seventy species of waterfowl, some of which are protected or rare - Pygmy Cormorant, Glossy Ibis, Red-breasted Goose, Lesser Grey Shrike ...
