"Persina" is located on the northern border of Bulgaria along the Danube. It covers an area of 21 762.2 ha along the Svishtov-Belene lowlands. It covers all Bulgarian Danube islands in this part of the Danube River: Persin, Golyama Byrzina, Magaretsa, Shturetsa, Milka, Kitka, Predela, Gradina, Srednyak, Lakut and Palets.
"Persina" is the only natural park on the Bulgarian Danube. In the park are described 475 species of vascular plants, 162 of them are closely related to water availability. In the park are found around 1,100 animal species, including 250 zooplankton and over 770 species of invertebrates including 35 species of snails and 16 species of mussels. The greatest wealth of the park are birds. There are over 200 species.
The park has lots of eco recreation, and shelter for bird watching. Belene Islands Complex is designated as one of fifty Important Bird Areas in Bulgaria. It was declared a Ramsar site in September 2002
The park has six protected areas: preserve "Persina marshes" landmark "Persia - East", "The Wrist" o. Kitka, reserve "Milka" located on the island. Milka Kaikusha protected area and landmark Floating in the area.
Along with its natural resources, the territory of the park has seen a rich historical past. So say many monuments, archaeological sites, castles, cemeteries and churches.
Department of Natural Park "Persina" is located in the town of Belene. Visitor Center at the park department provides information, literature and drivers on the routes in the park. Prices for the driver are not fixed and depend on the number of people in the group and the chosen route and transport. The center relies on Saturdays and Sundays, and weekdays work to 17h.
