Atanasovsko Lake is part of Burgas lake complex , it is located near the city of Burgas and the Sea coast. Is connected to the Black Sea through multiple channels that are used for the drainage of the lake. Length reached 9 km. , Width - 4.3 km . , And 1 m depth . The connection of the lake with the sea and its shallowness responsible for its high salinity - from 20 to 27.5 % . That is why the lake is actively used for salt production in the traditional manner from 1905 onwards. A large part of the lake were turned into salt pans . Annually harvested about 40,000 tons of salt. Area of salt production is included in the register of protected areas and protected areas in Bulgaria . The lake is one of the largest sources of mud in Bulgaria .
Besides the yield on the salt lake is known for its high floral and faunal diversity. In 1980 the northern part was declared a nature reserve. Lake is one of the most important areas of wetlands waterfowl along our coast . About 316 species are found in its territory, and 84 are included in the Red Book of Bulgaria , and about 130 are of European conservation concern . This makes the lake a very important bird area. Above it passes overhead highway of migratory birds from Europe - Via Pontic . Every year , can be seen to 240,000 flying storks and 60,000 raptors . And from all over Europe are seen here in flight as many White Pelicans , Dalmatian pelicans and marsh harriers . Second is a Bosphorus after a concentration of Lesser Spotted Eagle. It is interesting that even two copies of the exotic flamingo are seen in October 2013 in the waters of the lake. Swamp iris and orchids turtle is but a tiny part of the flora of the lake.
If you want to know nearly this amazing place you should visit the lake. It is available only on designated hiking trails . There is also a lookout for birds, which is located in the southern part of the lake and is accessible by public transport , car and bicycle. This shelter has a wealth of information for the entire reserve.
