Kyustendil Zoo

Kyustendil Zoo is one of the tourist attractions of the town of Kyustendil. It is located south of the city, in the park Hisarlaka . The zoo was founded back in 1962 , initially the idea was to create a small zoo , but subsequently decided to create a big zoo. It was moved to the park in 1966, four years after its creation , on the initiative of the city forester Ivan Sarbinska . There are 15 cells for herbivores , carnivores and birds and small natural history collection. Designer of the Zoo is Mr. Grisha Vladimirov . In the zoo has enough space to walk, there are places built for rest. Can be dealt with many birds , other herbivores and few predators . Visitors can see more than 50 representatives of the fauna. Animals are bred as typical for Bulgaria and other latitudes - jaguar , lion , raccoon , Cameroon goats and others. Exotic animals caused a furor and enthusiasm in kids . Adjacent to the zoo is located and the late antique and medieval fortress Hisarlaka dating from the end of a IV. - Start of the V. century. In recent years, the zoo is managed by Balkan Conservation Union , and by the middle of 2009 - Municipality of Kyustendil . Currently, the zoo has more than 50 animals. The municipality has ambitions Zoo to fund a project to meet all European requirements for the keeping of wild animals. There is an idea in Kyustendil zoo to make glass cells with which to replace the existing cages . At the zoo to introduce a doctor, as well as veterinary technician who will care for the animals menu . In summer the zoo is open to visitors from 9:00 to 19:00 , and in the winter - from 9:00 to 17:00.
