Nessebar is located on a small island that e tied to the mainland by the Isthmus, 400 m long Nessebar is one of the oldest cities in Europe and the richest in architectural monuments from the Middle Ages in Bulgaria. It is the successor of the ancient Thracian settlement Mesambria, founded in the second millennium BC Its name means town (briya) of Melsa.

In 1956 the town was proclaimed an architectural and archaeological reserve. The remains of the ancient city wall with a gate dating from III-IV century, the churches from V-VI century and later, from the medieval period (X-XIV century), which are fine works of medieval Bulgarian and Byzantine architecture, 60 houses, grouped in several ensemble, giving a unique appearance and atmosphere of the city. The ancient part of Nessebar is a cultural monument by the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.

In the old part of town has about 42 churches, of which less than half were found by archaeologists and preserved, but acting is now just one. Others more reserved have been turned into art galleries. Isthmus, connecting the old with the new is 400 m long. In the middle of the isthmus is the old mill city that does not operate as such, but only a tourist attraction. At the beginning of the quarter, in the new part of Nessebar is true mill city, which sadly is now built into the hotel.

In Nessebar is located landmark № 7 of Hundred tourist sites of the Bulgarian Tourist Union - architectural and historical reserve with the Archaeological Museum, summer hours (VI-IX): 9:00-19:00 am every day, winter-time (X-V): 9:00-12:00, has a seal.

Annual festivals held here are "Messembria", "Sun, Joy," "Honey Festival", held in early September.
