Town of Panagyurishte is situated in a picturesque valley of Sredna forest, 43 km north of Pazardzhik. The area of the city was inhabited since ancient times, which speak more than 300 monuments - cemeteries, villages, fortresses, military camps. Unsurpassed monument of the Thracian era is famous Panagyurishte gold treasure. It was discovered in the area near Panagyurishte - Merul on 08/12/1949 by three brothers Pavel, Petko and Michail Deykova. It consists of nine gold vessels with a total weight of 6.164 kg and is dated to the V-IV century BC. Treasure made of gold, a cult service, consisting of phial, an amphora and rhytons on the outer walls of which are scenes from Thracian-Greek pantheon. Today, the original can be seen at the National History Museum.

For the medieval history of the city resemble ruins of "Krasno" situated on the southern slopes of the Sredna forest near Panagyurishte.

Panagyurishte region is one of the centers of the Bulgarian Revival (XVIII - XIX century) and the struggles for national liberation from Ottoman rule. During the April Uprising against Ottoman rule in 1876 the city was the center of IV Revolutionary District. This population is most commonly raised and organized the struggle. In the struggle for national liberation and unification Panagyurishte give over 1,100 casualties. In memory of the heroes of April 1876 was erected memorial complex "Apriltsi" at the historic hill Manyovo hill in the city center. 9 km to the northwest lies the historic area Oborishte related to the April uprising, which leads to a scenic trail.

Among the interesting sights are its old churches. The oldest church in town is "St. Todor Tiron" built more than 400 years until in 1823 it was consecrated another church - "The Holy Blessed Virgin." In the period 1856 - 1860 was erected the cathedral church "St. George".

Mandatory stop for knowledge of the history of Panagyurishte is Historical Museum. The central building of the museum includes archaeological hall in which they are exposed original artifacts found during excavations in the city. The central exhibition of the museum is dedicated to the participation of Panagyurishte in the April uprising. A special room is devoted to the Panagyurishte gold treasure. Here you can see a copy of the gold service, and in the spring and original of which was built a special room.

A special place in the hearts of locals takes home of Raina Popgeorgieva known as Princess Raina. Today the house is a museum and is buried in the yard of your favorite character from the Bulgarian April uprising.
