Nowadays Batanovci Monastery "Ascension" is periodically active. It is nestled in the western foothills of the Golo Bardo Mountain, on the outskirts of the city Batanovtsi. In the monastery there is a church that is a basilica with two small conchas, a small dome and narthex. The temple was built in 1870. There is also a half-destroyed building. One of the places near the church until a few years ago was oak over 300 years. Unfortunately, in the summer of 2011 he fell.

The emergence of the monastery can not be dated exactly, but according to scientists was founded during the Second Bulgarian Empire. Found two invaluable monuments - Menaion with Service St. Petka, St. Panteleimon and St. Ivan Rilski of 1563 and four from 1564/65, the evidence that Batanovci monastery was an important literary and educational center in the of the country. At that time, the monastery functioned brotherhood, probably led by the monk Gabriel. It t attributes mentioned Gospel, which to this day is kept in the National Church Historical and Archaeological Museum in Sofia. From the comments it is clear that the center has had an impact not only nearby, but outside it - village Gjakova, Dupnishko. Further history of the monastery is lost. It is estimated that in the first half of the XVIII century it was destroyed by the Turks. In 1870 on the ruins of the old monastery was built Batanovci monastery. Built today's church "St. Spas ". In order educational activities found a school that grew into secular in 1882. The monastery church is act as the parish church for the village Batanovtsi. Gradually, with the advent of the socialist government in 1944, life in the cloister fading, and today the church is opened for service very rare. Batanovci monastery was declared a cultural monument.
